Cultural insensitivity


  • Persistence in using symbols, language that was once acceptable, now known to be harmful - could be racist, sexist, ableist, etc.

  • Teachers who intentionally exclude people

  • No cultural clubs, events, acknowledgment

  • Teachers / staff do not understand cultural backgrounds, practices, etc. Of students

  • Outdated mascots / names / art


Minor Intervention

  • Lack of cultural food options


Major Intervention

  • Lack of gender neutral facilities; lack of private / single-occupant facilities

  • Historic architectural styles related to oppressive regimes (imperial / colonial architectural styles)
